Interview with Brini.

Hi Everyone, check out Ms. Leo's blog below. I had found time to participate and you should too. It always fun to learn about my dollie friends. Here's the link.http://i-luv-dolls.blogspot.com/ have fun!!

Here are my responses!

When did you start collecting dolls?
About 21 years ago. When a little angel named Shaquetta Angelic Morris was born. I found it necessary to fill her world with AA Barbies. I wanted her to have doll that looked like her and inspire her throughout her life.
What a doll!!!!

What was your first purchase as a collector?
OMG, the one that really started it all was Bryon Lars In the Limelight. What a beautiful doll. I was so glad to see her beautiful brown skin walking down the catwalk.

How many dolls do you own?
Roughly 200, I think. I have about 40 of them that reside in Dotsville.  One gorgeous Zapf Creation Doll, Scarlet whom you met. One cloth doll that I named Queenie that is dressed in a African print dress sitting next to Bear, found her at the Goodwill about 6 years ago. One Fashion Royalty cutie named Dynamite Reese, whom I renamed Dyna Garrett.

What is your favorite doll and why?
My Free Moving Cara. All I wanted was a Barbie that looked like me when I was a little girl. If you ask my mother she would tell you that she took me out to the store and asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I took my hand and rubbed my skin to let her know I wanted a Barbie like me. My mother and father made sure Santa had her and a Free Moving Curtis too.

What doll or dolls are not your favorites and why?
Don't really care for the Stardolls. The clothes are cute but none will be moving to Dotsville. That just don't appeal to me.

What is the biggest challenge about collecting dolls?
Besides having room to display them, it really a challenge for me to take them out their boxes. Especially Silktones, they are like present to me I want to preserve forever. So yes, FR Dyna Garrett is still in her box.

How do you display or store your dolls?
Only a few are displayed at a time, they are awaiting new articulate bodies. I have them stored in boxes in the closet. I know right, what a shame?!?

Have you ever been to a doll show?
Only once, by chance, scored Radiance Ruby.I have a few I would like to attend on a regular basis.

When you travel, do you look for dolls?
Yes! I like to see what different city have and if I can find hidden treasures at a great deal.

What is your latest purchase?
Boot camp Barbie and Dr. Ken with Tommy. Boot camp was a body donor for Crystal Barbie who is Cara's cousin and Dr. Ken was nice enough to give all his accessories and outfit to Happy Family Alan. Little Tommy is now Dante who is Frannie son. The next one up is going to be Evening Gown Barbie. She will exhaust the budget for the next 2 months!

What doll is on your wish list now?
My holy grail is the ever fine Fashion Royalty Staying Power Darius Reid. He will be moving to Dotsville one day, OMG, one day.

Enough said!!!!!

What do you wish you didn’t purchase?
I'm happy with all my purchases. Even in the secondary market I have been lucky to add some dolls, houses and accessories when I can.

What is your favorite doll related item?
The Happy Family Grandparent set with the kitchen. Barbie finally had parents and they where available in the AA version so I had to get them. Then of course the rest of the family to build around Cara.

How often do you photo your dolls and what doll is the most photographed
and/or photogenic?
My Free Moving Cara is photographed the most because Dotsville is all about her and her family.

She just naturally cute.

Do you talk to other collectors in person or just on the web?
Mainly through the web. Although I would like to join a club here in Charlotte.

If you had the chance to speak to Mattel or other toy makers, what
would you say?
Please stop using the Desiree mold. That is the main reason I do not purchase AA dolls because they all look the same. We need more AA Ken dolls as well as clothes for them. How come Ken doesn't have a great wardrobe like Barbie? Why just offer 2-3 outfits a year? Why can't he have more wardrobe options? Now about the bodies, why can't they be articulate?

What doll do you wish would be reissued?
n/a

What two dolls would you combine and how would you want them
combined? (Muff style question)
n/a
Thanks Ms. Leo! Have a great weekend everyone.

That poor Desiree mold. I've disposed of more of her heads than anyone and still have plenty around.
