In honor of the young, gifted TRAYVON BENJAMIN MARTIN

February 5, 1995 – February 26, 2012

At this difficult time, please pray for his family as they seek understanding and justice for this senseless killing. This is a burden all children of color are born with. It is a lifetime burden for our black male children. I know because I am a mother of a young, gifted, and educated black male child.

    1. My mother from time to time will say, "What is this world coming too?". All we can do is pray.

It time for Mr. Dotson to get outside and work in the garden! Have a great weekend too!

  2. Yes, nice tribute! I pray for the Martin family and for justice. I pray for the families of the countless other Trayvons in the past.

Black males do have it particularly difficult in America because not only are they negatively judged based on skin color, their gender usually causes nonblacks to look at them with suspicion.

Even though he is a grown, brilliant, productive man, I worry for my son's safety still. I guess a mother never stops worrying about her children, but skin color and gender should not be cause for worry about what might happen to a child due to others' prejudging ignorance and fear.

    1. I agree with you too, as mothers we will always worry for our children. I think it is hard for some people to understand because our children, our black male children are born with this burden.

  4. Heartbreaking:( I really don't know how mothers of young black men ever let their sons out of their sights. I would be terrified.
