Lucky little girl.

Tomorrow a little girl will welcome into her home her very own Barbie.

The decision was easy to make too. I came home, opened a box that has dolls just waiting to break out. Took a picture of Mattel's Model #10 from the Basic 001 collection. I looked at her again and wondered should I take the dress and shoes off her and put on another outfit but then I changed my mind. I tried to bond with her but for some reason I couldn't. As I look at her now she seems to know she going to a little girl that will adore her. I told my co-worker who is leaving that I have the perfect doll for her and all she had to do was buy the clothes, car and house. She just laughed. She said she has been looking for Disney's Princess Tiana with no avail. I knew I wan't the only one thinking the stores here in Charlotte kinda suck when it comes to dolls of color, I knew it wasn't just me. Let enjoy one last look....

She is very pretty....

Everything original....

She will be missed but there's a lucky little girl waiting for her.

  1. I passed up on this doll even when she was $7 at TJ's. She just looks like Whoopie Goldburg to me. Not that there's anything wrong with Whoopie, but I know I would have to name her Whoopie and I don't want a doll named Whoopie.

    1. Hey Muff, hope everything is going good. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I did luck up and find her for $7 and thought she would like living in Dotsville. I guess she had other plans(lol). I feel bad because I couldn't remember her name and I know I named her. I'm just glad to make a little girl happy, you know. Every little girl deserves her own Barbie.

  2. I haven't bonded with this doll either. She just sits on the shelf and I keep thinking I want to sell her, but then I will see her on someone's flickr and she looks good there. I think I will just repaint her eyes and give her a nice short hairdo. For me there is something unappealing about her eyes. I am learning to just remake the dolls that I don't love as is.

    1. Hey Vanessa, I keep asking her if she would like to relocate to Morristown but she never responded! I do like her but just can't bond with her. You know I love how creative you are and I thought about different hair color, styles and a repaint (not by me)too but she still ended up back in the box. I'm glad she heading to a little girl who will love her. I even gave my coworker your etsy store info as well as DBG blog address!

    2. This is my third attempt to post a comment. I hope this one gets published because as bad as my memory is...

I have two Model 10s. One is used as my Obama action figure's stand in for FLMO. I pinned her hair under and gave her a bob style to temporarily shorten her hair. The other Model 10 is still in the box.

I have an extra Princess Tiana fashion doll that I discovered back in August when I rearranged some dolls that were stored in a bedroom closet. When Princess T dolls were released, I purchased them with a frenzy for myself and my niece. She and I already have one like the extra one I have -- she wears a green lacy dress. If your coworker is interested in this one, please share my email address with her.

Thank you for sharing a link to my blog.

BTW, I think you may have encouraged her to become a collector.

  3. I live in the Memphis area and there are plenty of dolls of color here. It makes me sad that little girls in other areas, though, have trouble finding dolls that look like them--I saw a comment on Pinterest one day from a woman who was amazed by the curly-haired SIS doll posted--she had apparently never seen one in person. I wish there was some way to distribute dolls to areas that don't have them--kind of a doll relocation project;) Maybe come time for the holidays, I can buy up a bunch of the AA dolls and send them to someone in a doll-dry area to distribute.

    1. Hey Miss_Lola trust me I'm kinda stumped about the availability of dolls of color. I don't think it really the stores but the demand. It's really funny to me, when I was little all I wanted was a doll that looked like me so for little girls here in Charlotte it not big deal as long as they have a doll. Just today when I gave this doll to my co-worker she said out of her own mouth she might keep her for herself, she never knew that had "black dolls" like this!!! I almost fell out of my chair!! I was like "WHAT??". I had to walk away. I do buy inexpensive dolls to give away at Christmas and hope they find their way to little girls who will love them as much as I love mine.

  4. Hey, I posted this before but it didn't show up! I purchesed this doll because it was the only doll with this head mold with a normal sized head. I soften the green eyeshadow by covering it with maroon eye pencil. I say send her to Chynadolls for a makeover. A get one of those other dolls for the little girl!

As for doll of color, it took awhile for the Jean Basics to show up here in Philly. That is the only time that has happened. It is very hard to find dolls of color here in the "hood" after Thanksgiving! You have to go to White neighborhoods to find black dolls then. Steven will still be there even the week after Xmas!

The SIS dolls are an answer to not finding black dolls in black neighborhoods. The stores that want black dolls can order them. Most Barbie lots come two or three dolls of color to the lot.

I want to see more companies doing more dolls including dolls of color. A company comes on for a few years, then it is gone and we are back to just the dolls Mattel does again!

    1. Ms. Leo you know your the reason I went looking for her!! I was like you at one time trying to figure out why they doll's heads were getting bigger, so when she went down in price I snatch her up. I named her but then couldn't remember what her name was, then I renamed her and still forgot. I didn't want to open her until I had a perfect name for her and it just wasn't working. Every now and then I pull her out and look at her again. My other models have name that fit them but this one just wouldn't stick.

I have been in Charlotte for almost four years. I have my favorite shopping areas I go to and see what the have new and it usually nothing. I have been waiting on the AA Computer Engineer and AA Architect to show but it never happens. Back in "The D" it ws no problem I can find all kind of AA dolls. I have took at it as a hidden blessing. Ir keeps me well within my dollie budget and I will only splurge every now and than.

I did think about the spa treatment, I really did!! I had to let her go so I can allow two more to relocate to Dotsville. I know she will make her new owner happy.

    1. Hey Marta, it seems like whenever I share my doll passions with people there is always someone that "doesn't know" these AA dolls existt!! I'm just wish I could see her face light up when she see her. Take care.

  6. I have this doll and I love her. In my world she has been rebodied and redressed. Her face definitely didn't match her body. I find that with a few of the Basics or just most of the heads on the MM body. She's in my post 2002 or Bust
